I first heard about The Philly Folk Parade a couple months ago and was in disbelief that so many of my favorite Philly artists were going to share the same bill. So, when August 2nd finally came around I went to The Philly Folk Parade downstairs at World Cafe Live and what I witnessed was like a dream come true.
The show was off to a good start with a flawless set by Joshua Park, followed by Thom McCarthy’s one song (“Cheesecakes Live Forever”) solo set that had the whole audience very entertained. The show continued with incredible sets by (in no particular order): Chris Kasper, Wissahickon Chicken Shack, Papertrees, The Great Unknown, Bevin Caulfield, Hezekiah Jones, and the final set going to The Philly Folk Parade organizers: Barbara Gettes and Michael Baker of The Spinning Leaves. There were countless collaborations throughout the whole night ending with a finale of epic proportions. All the musicians returned to the stage for one final set consisting of original songs and folk standards. The absolute last song performed was a very warm, fun and beautiful rendition of “Goodnight Irene”. Wow, such a brilliant night of music thanks to: Barbara Gettes, Michael Baker, Excited Light Productions, and all the musicians…unreal!
