Did You Hear? Peasant – “The Flask” (from ‘Bound For Glory’)

Peasant - Bound For Glory

Peasant (Damien DeRose) has released the first single, “The Flask”, from his forthcoming album, Bound For Glory, due out in April 2012 on Schnitzel Records.  If this song is any indication of the overall feel of Bound For Glory then we’re all in for a real treat.  Truthfully, when it comes to Peasant as a singer-songwriter I feel that our ears (and any part of us that is musically connected) are in good hands.  Yes, I’ll definitely be waiting for the release of Bound For Glory.  I wish I knew the exact release date then I would start an official countdown.

Did You Hear?: Chris Kasper – “Blue It Be”

Chris Kasper – “Blue It Be” from ‘The First Hundred Years are the Hardest’

CKasper- 1st 100 yrs

“Blue It Be” is a song from Chris Kasper’s new album, ‘The First Hundred Years are the Hardest’.  I’ve been a fan of this song ever since I heard it live months ago – even when I misheard a few lyrics.  I’m glad that the new album is finally being released so I can play it as often as I choose.  “Blue It Be” is yet another great example of Chris Kasper’s songwriting brilliance.

“If blue it is, then blue it be – just like the one sky, like the seven seas.”

WXPN welcomes Chris Kasper CD Release Show at World Cafe Live (Philadelphia, PA) on Friday, November 4, 2011 | Show 8:00pm | With: Vandaveer, Adrien Reju | Tickets: HERE | All Ages

Did you hear? Hezekiah Jones – “Borrowed Heart”

I’ve been listening to Hezekiah Jones – “Borrowed Heart” since its release last month by Weathervane Music as a new Shaking Through episode.  I first heard “Borrowed Heart” played on WXPN (88.5FM) and thought the song was irresistible.  So, I downloaded the song and play it on repeat often.

“Borrowed Heart” is an absolutely beautiful song.  It’s the voices of Raphael Cutrufello, Kiley Ryan, and Andrew Lipke that are individually powerful and undeniably breathtaking.  The music on this track is stunning and that buzzing lap steel (provided by Brad Hinton) is mesmerizing.  Excellent contributions by all the Jones’ involved in this song for giving it such a full and complete sound.  “Borrowed Heart” is a welcomed haunting and a great listening experience.

It’s said that “Borrowed Heart” syncs exactly with a scene from Bride of Frankenstein (a 1935 classic). Wow, that really speaks to how creative and truly an artist Raphael Cutrufello is.  Brilliant!

Did You Hear? Kid Queasy – Old Man Jack (Sleet Walker’s Synth Labyrinth II)

Kid Queasy – Old Man Jack (Sleet Walker‘s Synth Labyrinth II) — The beginning of this track definitely sounds like a spacey soundscape that I would expect to hear on XPN at night during Echoes, which is very alluring because Echoes plays some extremely creative music.  At some point in the song the beat picks up a bit giving the song a more dance/electronica feel.  There is a siren-like section in the song that might catch you off guard, so beware.  When I find myself hitting the “repeat” button then I know it’s a great song.  Although some of that need for repeat listening is out of sheer mesmerizing need to understand how an artist even goes about creating a track like this.  Oh well, I’ve got the easy part, I just listen – and so should you.
