Saturday night must have been folk rock night at Milkboy Coffee (Ardmore) because all three bands on the bill seemed to embody that genre in some way. The Gallerist–I had never seen that band before that night but I really enjoyed their set. It was great music and the night was off to a great start. Then New Sweden played and somehow this band too had managed to dodge my music seeking radar. Man, I often feel cheated when I think that I’m discovering a band late. I also feel that someone should have told me how good New Sweden is much sooner. And I thought I had friends!?!?
Oh my, I got to see Black Horse Motel again and that band is still as breathtakingly-good as they were the first time I saw them a few months ago. Black Horse Motel’s music and performance simply lit up the venue and mesmerized the audience. I know I wasn’t the only one under Black Horse Motel’s beautiful musical trance that night. Hopefully soon I’ll get around to giving their debut full-length album, Red Summer Spirit, a proper review just in case you need to be persuaded to check out Black Horse Motel’s marvelous music.
If you ever get the chance to check out any of these bands you must go.
By the way, Milkboy Coffee is changing owners at the end of this month and will be called Melodies Cafe. I hope they continue to host great shows like this one.
